今日はこればっかでしたね。勝谷氏や二宮氏の発言にはみんな共感しているし、マスコミも動き出すだろう。テレビ局が、同じ許認可仲間のTBSを血祭りに上げるかどうかは分からないけど。
倫理を置き去りにしてカネ儲けに突っ走ってきたこの国が、この辺で大きく逆転現象を始めるのではないかという気がしているのだが、一旦方向が定まるとなかなかブレーキが効かないところが怖くて、そういうときこそネットが力を発揮すればいいなぁ、と。

まだよく分かってないんだけど、とにかくNet neutrality を検証する方法が早くも開発されたらしい。
Dan Kaminsky, a Seattle-based security researcher has devised a way to test for net neutrality. He will share details of this technique, which will be rolled into a free tool, today at the Black Hat conference. The software can tell whether computers are treating some types of TCP/IP traffic better than others.

Kaminsky said he believes that Net neutrality will eventually become law and that the type of software he is developing will help keep the carriers honest. “If you’re going to enforce by law that networks be neutral, the question becomes, ‘How do you test for this?’” he said. “I’m going to make sure that the tools are going to be in place.”
The security researcher said he is curious to see what people do with his software. “People are going to start looking [at networks] and who knows what they are going to find,” he said.

富山県高岡市の精神疾患患者約１５００人分の個人情報が、ファイル交換ソフト「ウィニー」を通じてインターネット上に流出した問題で、このファイルをダウンロードした利用者に対し、プロバイダーがファイル削除を求める文書を郵送していたことが分かった。
流出元となった情報処理会社「インテック」（富山市）に対し、高岡市が削除を指示したのは、流出が明らかになった７月２６日。同社は、ウィニーを利用しているパソコンを特定できる東京都内のネット関連企業に依頼し、問題のファイルを保存しているパソコンのＩＰアドレスを把握。その上で、複数のプロバイダーにＩＰアドレスを示し、「削除を呼びかけてほしい」と要請した。

情報を取り扱う会社が情報を漏らしたんじゃ洒落にもならないから、自費で専門会社を雇って流出先を調べ、ISPに対してユーザーへの削除依頼を依頼した、という一連の行為には責任感が感じられ、それで情報流出の責任が免れるわけではないにしても、オレは好感を持った。
しかし、今回は流出した情報の内容がちょっとやばすぎるよな…。

YouTube removed all parody/fanfilm/spoof Star Wars content two days ago due to copyright violation. This morning, in an incredibly awesome PR move, Lucasfilm contacted YouTube, and told them to put it all back online – every last one.

Anonymous Coward曰く、”「OpenWinny」という名のソフトウェアが公開されている。使ってみたところ次のような動作をするようだ。まず最初に、オリジナルのWinnyと同様に、接続待ち受け用ポート番号と、最初に接続するWinny稼動コンピュータのIPアドレスとポート番号（ノード）の設定をする。すると、それらのノードに順次接続し、新たなノードを探し出して「ノード情報」の画面に一覧表示する。ここで、オリジナルのWinnyがノードのホスト名（FQDN）をあえて表示しないようにしているのと違って、OpenWinnyはそれを表示するところが特徴となっている。
これまでにあったWinnyクローンがファイル交換用途だったのと異なり、このプログラムは、ファイルの送信者特定や送信事実の確認のために必要な機能だけが実装されているようだ。用途として、プライバシー情報をWinnyネットワークに流出させられてしまった被害者が、このプログラムを使って、今も流出ファイルを流通させている人のIPアドレスを突き止め、法的措置をとるといったことが考えられる。

こんな正体不明のプログラムを、ネットにつないだまま実行する勇気なんてありません。
公開されているソースとバイナリが対応している保証もないし。
スラッシュドットにタレコミしたのも、作者本人なんじゃないですかね。
間違って実行してしまった人、どんな罠がしかけられているかわかりませんよ。

Pixel Count, expressed as Megapixels, is simply multiplying the number of horizontal pixels by the number of vertical pixels. It’s exactly like calculating area. A 3 MP camera has 2,048 (horizontal) x 1,536 (vertical) pixels, or 3,145,728 pixels. We call this simply 3 MP.
Small differences in pixel count, between say 5 MP and 8MP, are unimportant because pixel counts are a square function. It’s exactly like calculating area or square footage. It only takes a 40% increase in linear dimensions to double the pixel count! Doubling pixel count only increases the real, linear resolution by 40%, which is pretty much invisible.
The megapixel myth was started by camera makers and swallowed hook, line and sinker by camera measurebators. Camera makers use the number of megapixels a camera has to hoodwink you into thinking it has something to do with camera quality.

So far, the latest top-level engineer to leave Technorati has only announced his move in his Flickr photos. Ben Jenkins handled Flickr photo integration handled all CSS and HTML for the blog search company; now he’s heading to Yahoo’s Flickr team.
What does it mean for Technorati? The company has a strong engineering team, which made Technorati the most precise and comprehensive blog search engine — better than Google’s or Yahoo’s blog searches.
But this year, many long-time employees have bailed — marketing director Richard Ault, community manager Niall Kennedy, engineer Jason DeFillippo and star designer Derek Powazek. Is Technorati losing the team that made it great? Is that why it’s acting desperate for a buyer?

This is not ‘news’ as in new, but it was news to me and I think many other people will be interested/concerned. Google ‘index.dat’ for more info, there are several utilities around for reading the contents of these files. Everyone interested in maintaining their privacy when using windows needs to know about this!
