HP chairwoman sniffed out directors 水曜日, 9月 6 2006

これもなんだかよく分からない話なのだが、C|Netに情報を漏らした者を特定するためにchairwomanのPatricia Dunnが役員連中の自宅の電話を盗聴し、その結果Tom PerkinsというVCstが辞めたというのだが?

In short, Dunn searched for a board member who leaked info to CNET News by investigating private records. She found the leaker, who refuses to resign, but Perkins (who later found he was also a victim of pretexting) quit the board. The SEC (and Perkins) say that HP hasn’t properly filed the reason for Perkins’s resignation — because HP doesn’t want to implicate itself for Dunn’s risky behavior.

Patricia Dunnというのは、Carly FiorinaがCEOを退任したとき一緒に降格されられた人物のようだが。

The daughter of a showgirl and vaudeville actor, Dunn, 52, wanted to be a journalist. Fearing this career move might leave her impoverished, Dunn started as a secretary and eventually climbed to the top of Barclays Global Investors, the asset management arm of the England-based financial firm. After a bout with breast cancer, Dunn has returned to Barclays in a nonexecutive role and is now focused on corporate governance issues and client relations. Earlier this year Dunn grabbed headlines with the ousting of Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Carleton Fiorina; she serves as the struggling computer and printer company’s nonexecutive chairman.

turmoil at facebook’s renewal 水曜日, 9月 6 2006

FaceBookの機能追加については、いつもの通りTechCrunchがいち早く伝えていたようだが、ユーザーは新たな機能をお気に召さなかったようで、総スカン状態だと言う。

Many tens of thousands of Facebook users are not happy with the changes. Frank Gruber notes that a Facebook group has been formed called “Students Against Facebook News Feed”. A commenter in our previous post said the group was closing in on 100,000 members as of 9:33 PM PST, less than a day after the new features were launched. There are rumors of hundreds of other Facebook groups calling for a removal of the new features.

友達登録した相手の行動が筒抜けになるような印象を与えたのがまずかったらしいが、ユーザーでない自分には良く分からない。Michael Arringtonは評価を変えていないようで、もしもこの機能が最初から備えられていて、それが取り除かれたのであったとしたら、逆の反応を示すだろうとまで述べているが、今更そんなことを言っても無駄であろう。

運営者側も良かれと思ってやったに違いなく、ユーザーの思わぬ反応に戸惑っていることだろうが、ボイコット運動まで起こっているようでは事態の収拾は難しいように思える。個人情報をコンテンツとしているサイトの怖さを垣間見た思いだ。
